Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center selects the Acoustic Magic Voice Tracker™ Array microphone to record “Voice Clips” on its PACs system

Sudbury MA—January 16, 2008 – Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center wanted to use the “Voice Clip” feature in their PACs system, but didn’t want to encumber their Radiologists with headset microphones. The Voice Tracker™ desktop array microphone was able to pickup the Radiologist’s comments, while filtering out the background noise.

According to Jerrod L Davis, Director of Radiology at Twin Lakes, “The Amicas Vision Series PACs system allows the Radiologist to leave a “Voice Clip” for referring physicians to listen to right away, so they don’t have to wait for the report. The problem we faced was finding a handsfree/headset free microphone that was good enough. We experimented with several microphones that simply could not pick up the voice or picked up every noise in the surrounding area. Finally, we tried the Voice Tracker, and it was perfect for the “Voice Clips”. The Voice Tracker™ doesn’t pick up noises outside the listening range and the Radiologist doesn’t have to talk louder or directly into it.”

Davis indicated he would also use the Voice Tracker™ with automatic speech recognition-based dictation software.

The Voice Tracker™ locates a talker and electronically steers a “listening beam,” like an acoustic searchlight, in that direction. This creates spatial filtering; sounds from other parts of the room are not picked up. In addition, digital noise reduction processing removes background noise. This two-stage noise reduction, coupled with the sensitivity of eight always on microphone elements, gives the Voice Tracker™ outstanding range and sound quality.

“We are very pleased to be associated with a quality organization such as Twin Lakes, and are excited that our microphone has found a new application in the PACs arena,” said Bob Feingold, CEO of Acoustic Magic, designer of the Voice Tracker™ Array microphone.
